Kensington Pride, also known as the Bowen or Bowen Special, is Australia’s most popular mango variety, accounting for approximately 80% of the country’s annual commercial market. It is highly prized for its rich, sweet, and slightly tangy flavour, as well as its distinctive tropical aroma.
Characteristics and Appearance
- Fruit Size: Typically medium to large, weighing between 300g and 600g.
- Skin: Smooth and thin; it ripens from greenish-yellow to a golden yellow, often featuring a prominent pink to red blush on the sun-exposed side.
- Flesh: Deep yellow to orange, juicy, and tender with a smooth, melting texture and minimal fiber.
- Flavor Profile: A well-balanced blend of sweetness and mild acidity with citrusy and floral undertones.
